Bangkok, officially known as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, is a city that pulses with energy and contrasts. On my recent South Asia trip, I had the chance to spend several days in this sprawling metropolis. From the moment I landed and took a taxi to my hotel, the city’s charm was undeniable. My stay at the Bangkok Hotel Lotus Sukhumvit 33 set the tone for an unforgettable experience. The hotel’s location was perfect, and the rooftop swimming pool offered a refreshing escape with stunning views of the city skyline.
Staying at Bangkok Hotel Lotus Sukhumvit 33
Choosing the right place to stay can make or break a trip, and Bangkok Hotel Lotus Sukhumvit 33 exceeded my expectations. Located in a lively neighborhood, the hotel provided easy access to many attractions. The rooftop swimming pool was a highlight, offering a peaceful retreat after long days of exploring.. For panoramic views of Bangkok, I visited the King Power Mahanakhon Tower. The observation deck offers a glass floor experience that lets you look straight down to the city streets below. The view was breathtaking, especially as the sun began to set. Later, I headed to the Sky Bar on the 64th floor of the Lebua State Tower. This rooftop bar is famous for its stunning night views and elegant ambiance. Sipping a cocktail while gazing over the illuminated city was a memorable experience.

Exploring Quartier Mall and Its Water Garden
Near my hotel, I visited the Quartier Mall, a modern shopping complex with a unique feature: a water garden inside the mall. This indoor garden created a calm oasis amid the bustling shopping area. The combination of greenery and water elements made it a pleasant spot to relax and enjoy a coffee. The mall also offered a variety of shops and dining options, perfect for a leisurely afternoon.
A Journey Through Canals to Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen Buddha
One of the most unique experiences was traveling by canal to Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen Buddha. Floating past old wooden houses and lush greenery, the boat ride felt like stepping back in time. The temple itself was peaceful and beautifully maintained. This journey offered a glimpse into the traditional way of life along Bangkok’s waterways, contrasting sharply with the modern cityscape.

Meeting Artist Chumphon Akkapantanon at The Artist’s House (Baan Silapin)
At Wat Paknam, I had the privilege of meeting Chumphon Akkapantanon, a talented artist who owns and revitalized The Artist’s House, known locally as Baan Silapin. This historic wooden house serves as a cultural hub where traditional Thai art and puppetry are preserved. Chumphon shared stories about the house’s history and his efforts to keep local art alive. Visiting this place was inspiring and added depth to my understanding of Bangkok’s cultural heritage.

Visiting Wat Pho and the Grand Palace Area
No trip to Bangkok is complete without seeing Wat Pho, home to the famous Reclining Buddha. The temple’s intricate architecture and serene atmosphere impressed me. Nearby, the Grand Palace stands as a symbol of Thailand’s royal history. Walking through these sites, I appreciated the craftsmanship and cultural significance they hold. These landmarks are essential stops for anyone wanting to connect with Thailand’s past.

Evening at The Bamboo Bar with 1950s Jazz Ambiance
After a day of sightseeing, I visited The Bamboo Bar, an elegant jazz bar with a 1950s vibe. The atmosphere was intimate and stylish, with live music that transported me to another era. The bar’s design and cocktails made it a perfect place to unwind and reflect on the day’s adventures. It’s a spot that combines culture and relaxation seamlessly.
Tuk Tuk Ride with Expique and Local Food Exploration
The next day, I took a Tuk Tuk ride arranged by Expique, a local tour company. This ride introduced me to hidden food stands and lesser-known temples. Along the way, I stopped at historical monuments like The Giant Swing, a striking red structure with religious significance. Sampling street food from local vendors gave me a true taste of Bangkok’s culinary diversity. The Tuk Tuk ride was not just transportation but an immersive cultural experience.
